Lovesick overcame a tough start in Friday's Liza Jane S. at Gulfstream Park to score a 1 3/4-length victory in the 6 1/2-furlong contest for 3-year-old fillies.

The Adios Charlie filly proved she was much the best after spotting the field several lengths at the break, then going four-wide on the turn to roll to the lead and coast home to score her third lifetime win, and second in a stakes race, in just four starts.

“She was obviously the best horse. She ran huge. She’d been training really well,” trainer David Fawkes said. “I was real confident today until the break. (Jockey) Edgard (Zayas) did a great job in not getting nervous. He sat back and waited and took his time and she proved to be the best.”

Lovesick, who won the Juvenile Fillies Sprint at Gulfstream Park West as a 2-year-old, has now banked $142,140 for owners e Five Racing Thoroughbreds.

The winner was bred by Ocala stud from the High Cotton mare Almost A Valentine, who is also the dam of Grade 1 Cigar Mile winner Patternrecognition and Florida Fuego, who won the 2018 running of the Liza Jane.
