Undefeated Turbulent Descent is the latest superior runner to emerge from the Ocala Stud program, following her impressive 1 ¼-length victory in the $400,000 Hollywood Starlet S. (G1) on Dec. 11. The 2-year-old filly was bred, foaled, raised, and sold by Ocala Stud.

Turbulent Descent was the second Graded stakes winner on the day bred by Ocala Stud, and is the seventh Graded stakes winner this year for the O’Farrell Family’s nursery.

In the Starlet, Turbulent Descent was the even-money favorite of the crowd despite making her first start around two turns. Under regular rider David Flores, she was content to rate along the rail for the first half. Flores took her three-wide turning for home, and after edging clear, was under a hand ride over the final furlong.

Racing now for Blinkers On Racing, Aurelio, Butler, Coons, Lapso, et al, and trained by the veteran Mike Puype, Turbulent Descent is unbeaten and untested in three starts, with facile victories in the Starlet and the Moccasin Stakes over the past three weeks.

Flores said afterwards, “I am a little excited and a little relieved. I’m excited because I can tell what kind of horse she is, and the relief is she handled the two turns well.”

From the first crop by Congrats and out of the Forestry mare Roger’s Sue, Turbulent Descent was purchased by Blinkers On Racing for $160,000 at this year’s OBS April Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training, highest price for any filly by Congrats all season.

Turbulent Descent is a great-granddaughter of the top mare Gorgeous, a multiple Grade 1 winner back in 1989. Ocala Stud purchased Turbulent Descent’s dam at Keeneland November 2004 for $105,000. She has a yearling colt by Trippi, and was bred to Ocala Stud's exciting first-year stallion In Summation earlier this year.

Ocala Stud has sold 15 stakes horses of 2010, including three Grade 1 stakes winners: Turbulent Descent, Rigoletta, and Old Midleton. No other juvenile consignor has sold more.
